L320 Range Rover Sport - Diagnosis & Repair service

We've had an imported (from UK) Range Rover Sport L320 HSE model, stayed in our workshop for almost a week.

The car had absolutely no problem according to the owner, but as soon as it landed in Australia something happened and after few days the headunit never turned on since then.

This is the photo we got from the owner before the car was dropped at our workshop - We always ask some visual information, whether It's a photo or a video before the car comes to us, so we can check what's the problem and prepare parts / tools if available.

With cases like this, replacing headunit / other components 'usually' fixes the problem, regardless of the coding / wiring etc.

However If It's not diagnosed properly from parts to parts and each components, It leaves the chance for the same problem to reoccur.

That's why in Naviplus, We request customers to provide us enough time, to do a deep diagnosis on not just malfunctioning parts, but also the whole car, to get a report on the problems / errors and rectify it one by one.

SDD - OEM Diagnostic Software for JLR 2004 - 2012

And this applies to every other brands we work on - We always tend to use a genuine Scanning device , to ensure providing a proper scanning / coding service, We can't stress enough on how many those cars we had, claiming that It was diagnosed from elsewhere but showed no problem - but once diagnosed with a proper genuine / OEM grade machines of ours showing the bunch of error / failure messages from the car.

So with this L320 there were more than a few problems -

The ACM and IPMB were not responding, meaning that the headunit can't generate nor load up the interface / OS to the screen.

In other words, reference to the computer, GPU isn't booting up but also the motherboard isn't - hence the rest of components aren't working as motherboard isn't distributing power.

When the CANGATE showing bunch of errors and only 4x4 / Drive related functions are working, then that means the headunit is in serious (worst) condition.

Normally clearing the error code often fixes certain issues - but with this L320, It wasn't the case, not when ACM IPM and HCM aren't responding at all - Mostly the ACM is dead thus rest of related devices went sleep mode to prevent further damage on themselves.

Repairing is also an option- however repairing the component / chipset within the circuit board is sometimes beyond our skillset. And It won't guarantee whether we can fix the issues with the ACM or not.

So for the repair - We've ordered a replacement headunit, BH22-18C815 that suits L320 with Denso Nav.

We try to avoid wreckers when we are repairing customers vehicle - as quite many of them keep the audio infotainment units under not-so-desirable condition.

This is the headunit - with DVD reader combined. The whole headunit - marked area in the photo below:

The headunit sits behind the control panel, between the climate control unit and the display.

The whole replacement process was done without any damage on the surface of the dash / plastic trims.

And basic programming was done via SDD, to ensure ACM is back to normal , along with link to other modules.

And as you can see the audio is back to live - obviously the NAV isn't working as this vehicle was in UK last time the It was active, which is the another reason why the customer visited us in the first place - to get a CarPlay & Android Auto to get more reliable & up to date Map for Australia.

Naviplus offers diagnostic & repair service, not just for Range Rovers but also any other brands those ever sold in Australia, often we have to learn & investigate more to give you the solution / answer you are looking for, and sometimes we may end up not able to provide a service. Yet we assure you that we will take care of you car like we take care of our dream car that finally got our hands on.
